Music Meta Data
So my buddy Marc Schapiro posted a funny but revealing screen shot on his facebook today. Take a look:
The picture came with a short but precise rant: “Bands, don’t forget the meta data. How am I supposed to sort this crap?” What a great point that seems to fly under the radar for many a people. It used to be that you would put your band name, track titles and contact info on the CD, on the CD Case and on the press kit. That way if any part of the kit was thrown away, your contact info could be easily found elsewhere. Now it seems that the physical press kit is being replaced with the EPK and if you aren’t covering your bases, you could miss out.
You can put meta data in your music simply by opening iTunes, right click on your track and select get info. See the image below:
Put your album, track title, release date, etc. but more importantly, put your contact information in the comment field. Unlike physical media, you can’t write on digital media… but you can write IN it. Make sure you are easy to find for anyone that gets your digital tracks!
